Money?
Last Wednesday I got back to my village with 11 emalangeni in my pockets. We don’t get paid again till Friday, today is Monday, and I am flat broke yo. Actually not completely, considering the 11 emalangeni; though 4 of that I need to save for bus fare back into town-that’s where my bank is, and that’s where I’ll get more money on Friday. So 7 ema remaining, which equates to about one dollar. But then again its not like there is a supermarket around to splurge my precious savings on.
So, I’ve been rationing everything-my food, candles, even toilet paper. Its my most recent obsession. Of course I could just go and use my ATM card and withdraw money from my US account but I don’t want to. The challenge is the coolest part of my suffering.
Though it is pretty ironic-I used to be so anal about my money; at one point I was even jotting down exactly how much I spent each day on my calendar, down to each CENT! Holly. Wholly.
